Fatty Crab

            At Fatty Crab the other day, it dawned on me that I hadn’t written it up yet. It’s one of my favorite restaurants (how could it not be), but I’ve been too busy/lazy to post a lot recently. It’s like senioritis hit me second semester junior year. So did two term papers and an SAT subject test. But now that the dreaded junior year is over, I have all the time in the world to go eat and report back on great restaurants. And also to go to the movies and sit in the AC. A lot.

            Fatty Crab is a very cool restaurant with outdoor seating, Malaysian food, Thai iced tea and the best summer dish you could possibly dream up: fried pork belly, watermelon pickles, pieces of watermelon, and scallions. It may sound slightly daunting, but somehow, there has never been a better combination.

            Besides that, everything else is ALSO insanely delicious, from the coconut rice to the Chinese broccoli. And you absolutely cannot miss the pork buns. The soft, pillowy steamed buns have a slab of pork and are served with a slice of soft-boiled egg, hoisin sauce, and a salad of cilantro and pickles. You pile it all on for a pork bun just as delicious as the pork belly salad.

            Sitting at one of the sidewalk tables with a glass of ice-cold Thai iced tea and some friends is exactly where I want to be on a summer Friday night!
